RE: ELECTRICAL PROBLEM

If you have a generator of your own, you could try it and at least rule it in or out....

RE: Gotta change "the valve"

I am afraid I second the hazmat suit idea. My blacktank valve has to be in one of the worlds worst positions as a grey tank and black tank piping 'Y' together with the valve in between the tanks so there is no give in the pipe to drop the valve. Lets just say it was not a pretty scene, but once it is over with the trauma recedes fairly quickly. :B Must be a cougar thing as mine was teh same way, I had an 03, same model as yours. I found though, there was TP packed into the slot where the gate keeper was supposed to slide into and this was what was letting the watery substance flow out of the tank. Cleaned out the groove and it worked fine after that...

RE: Is my 08 Sierra set up to charge my trailer battery

My dealer had no clue as to what wire I was talking about, nor did they know where it should be hooked up or that there was even a second wire in place for a add on brake controller.. Needless to say, I don't go to the dealer for that type of thing anymore...

RE: Is my 08 Sierra set up to charge my trailer battery

Actually, on my 08 Chevy, I had to connect a wire that was wrapped up behind the fuse box under the hood. There are 2 posts on the front of the fuse box (again, under the hood) one is small and one is a little larger (don't remember placement) but this wire gets connected to the smaller of the 2. YOu will have to get (I think it was a 6mm) a nut from the local hardware store to use. I think this information was included in the manual. I also posted this information back in the late February time frame if you want to try and search for it, there was a link in that post that showed everything...

RE: NY e-zpass rant

Sounds like a trip to the EZPass office is next.. sorry I couldn't help..

RE: NY e-zpass rant

All that being said, it sounds like you got the wrong pass for towing... Is there any sort of marking on it to confirm it is the 4H? How much of a discount does this equate to?

RE: NY e-zpass rant

After reading this NY EZPass it looks as though you don't HAVE to have an additional tag, you just have to use a staffed lane...

RE: NY e-zpass rant

So what if you just had your truck? You would get charged as though you had the trailer too?

RE: NY e-zpass rant

For Maryland (and NJ so far as I know) you just get a regular vehicle pass and when the trailer is connected, you get charged accordingly. I have not ever been charged as though I were a Tractor Trailer when traveling through New York.

RE: Between a Rock and a Hard Place.

I would look at the Chevy website, on the left there is a "find a vehicle" link and that will let you look for the truck you desire and look at window stickers of those trucks to be sure it has what you want, then just go get it....

RE: Suspension air bags

I've used both the Air Lift and the Ride Rite bags on a couple trucks. I found the Ride Rites to be a better product. The Air Lift bags attach outside the frame and I found that it raised the rear of the truck far more then the Ride Rites. Example: pulling out from under the 5r with the Air Lift, if I didn't let the air out of the bag before pulling forward, the truck would pop up and the rails would touch the underside of the 5r where with the Ride Rites the truck only came up an inch or so... Just my experiences...

RE: When is gas gonna kill your camping?

I look at it this way.. The fuel I use for taking a vacation is something planned anyway and a little more for fuel on a vacation is nothing compared to the fuel I use daily getting back and forth to work so I think the camping will continue, although maybe more trips closer to home but I would rather stop the daily drive then the vacation drive...

Any issues with the plexi getting dull or cloudy?

RE: For those that have Firestone ride rites airbags

The "T" had a compression fitting, very easy... I think it was an easier install then shocks because the only thing you take off is the rubber stop. I did take the wheel off, used a jack under the axel and then a jack stand while I worked. Just make sure that if you go to a shop, you remind them you have the bags (watch them write it on the service order) and to not use a frame lift... I had them on 2 trucks, never had a problem..

RE: What is a preflight hitch?

A check list for hooking up a fifth wheel mentions a preflight hitch. Does anyone know what they are referring to? IF I am interpreting this correctly (that is a big IF) then I would assume it is talking about hitching up, then raising front legs about an inch, then manually locking trailer brakes and trying to pull truck away... Just ensuring you have a locked hitch before towing down the road. Not sure if this is correct term for it or not, but I do it EVERY time I connect to my 5er. Again, that is IF I interpreted it correctly. I call this the "pull test"

RE: For those that have Firestone ride rites airbags

I have them on my F150 and I ran the lines to a T then mounted the valve inside by the gas cap. I figured it would remain clean I could have the sticker there to remind me the high/low pressures and would alway remember which side I needed to have by the air machine if I needed to fill at the gas station. The rear bumper could have been a pain with a trailer attached. This is what I did as well, this allowed me to plug in my 12v compressor in the lighter and stand there next to the truck and air up the bags as needed.

RE: 5th Wheel hookup- self install over dealer..worth it?

I have an 08 3500HD dually, did the job myself with the custom brackets, still needed to drill the 2 front holes in the frame, no big deal, as stated above, took more time measuring and double checking then anything else. How it is mounted wont affect your bed rail hight, you have to hook up and adjust after it is installed to get that right...
